The Brains Behind the Beauty: Advanced Technology on the 2006 Cadillac DTS

By now you’ve seen or heard a lot about the 2006 Cadillac DTS, the successor to the DeVille, and one of the hottest cars to hit the limousine and livery industry in years. The completely revamped 2006 Cadillac DTS lineup has no doubt turned the heads of many passersby. Cadillac’s creative success comes from the combination of four critical elements: design, performance, craftsmanship, and technology. The marriage of these elements has produced an unsurpassed lineup of professional vehicles that are quickly becoming an addition to many operators’ fleets. Here’s a glance at some of the upgraded technological and safety features — inside and out — that make the 2006 DTS the best limousine and livery model vehicle to date.

Adaptive Remote Start
Whether inside the office or a holding location, a chauffeur can start the vehicle from up to 196 feet away utilizing the DTS key fob. For safety, the doors to the vehicle stay locked until unlocked by the driver. Depending on the outside temperature, the vehicle’s climate control is also automatically adjusted when the car is remotely started — heating/air conditioning, windshield defroster, and heated front seats, if equipped.

Airbags
Cadillac takes the safety of its passengers seriously. There are six airbags on the standard DTS livery model (four on limousine models) including driver and passenger front and side mounted airbags for total protection. The front passenger airbag features advanced, dual depth deployment technology — an industry-first from Cadillac. Additionally, for improved head protection of front and rear seat passengers, the standard DTS livery sedan has roof rail side curtain air bags along the roof of the vehicle.

Audio Control Center
New for 2006, an updated sound system is standard with 252 watts of power, eight speakers, and a single CD player. It also features plug and play technology — an auxiliary outlet on the faceplate allows the connection of portable audio equipment, including MP3 players. Additionally, DTS limousines and livery sedans can be equipped with an available XM Satellite Radio upgrade, which offers over 150 stations of commercial-free radio in just about any genre. Climate Control Seats
Climate Control Seats put an end to burning hot leather on sweltering summer days or a frigid surprise on a cold winter morning. With available heated and cooled front seats and heated rear seats, the driver and outboard passengers can control the temperature of their soft Nuance leather seats to fit their individual comfort level. The temperature can be adjusted through the back or throughout the entire seat for heating, and through the seat cushion for cooling. Controls are located on the upper door panels for ease of use.

DVD Navigation System
Never be late or stuck in traffic! With virtually every street mapped in the entire United States and Canada, the available DVD navigation system will prove very useful to chauffeurs who need an alternate route to get to their clients. The navigation system, conveniently and centrally located in the center stack, is run on a single DVD, which contains directions for practically anywhere a chauffeur can drive. The maps are clearly labeled with icons and include gas stations, restaurants, and hospital locations for emergencies.

Electronic Throttle Control
A smooth, comfortable ride is paramount for a pleasant chauffeured experience. Cadillac’s Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) replaces the mechanical linkage between the accelerator and engine throttle with electronic controls. Tailoring throttle responses and transmission shifting by reading driver input, ETC shapes Northstar engine performance in a smooth, seamless manner.

Exterior and Interior Lighting
The lighting has also been revamped for 2006, providing optimal interior visibility and exterior safety. The interior LED lighting provides crisper, whiter lighting in the front and rear cabins for better overall illumination and reading comfort. On the exterior, the new vertically shaped headlights are as beautiful as they are functional. Cadillac uses a single Xenon bulb, which emits up to three times more light than traditional halogen. The taillights use LED lighting that lasts the life of the vehicle.

OnStar
No one likes to think about it, but accidents do happen; and emergency response time is often the most critical factor. Using Advanced Automatic Crash Notification technology, the OnStar system senses when there is an accident or airbag deployment and sends assistance to the scene. Additionally, the OnStar system works as a diagnostic tool for mechanical problems with the vehicle, can be used for roadside assistance, or can even remotely unlock the vehicle’s doors.

Tri-zone Climate Control
It’s the classic dilemma — finding the perfect temperature so that all passengers are satisfied. Being too cold or too warm during a ride is one of the things that can make or break a client’s experience with a ground transportation company. The Tri-zone Climate Control eliminates this struggle. This essential feature allows passengers, including those riding in the rear seat, to control their temperature within their “zone” — up to a 20-degree difference.

Hidden Gems

  • Both front and rear moveable side glass windows have an inner layer of polymer to better insulate the cabin from road noise and help prevent “smash and grab” vehicle theft.
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System — alerts the chauffeur of dangerously high or low tire pressure in all four tires to help prevent serious accidents from improper tire inflation. LD
